Children experience the Foundation Stage curriculum in a wide range of settings including nurseries, children's centres, playgroups, accredited childminders and schools. The setting chosen by parents will depend on the needs of the child, parents' childcare needs and their preferences, and what is available, affordable and accessible. Whichever setting they choose, parents will be keen to support their child and want to be involved. It is a big step for parents when their child starts nursery, and we can help them by talking about their wishes, their concerns, what happens in nursery and why. We can explain:
How the adults work together to support the children
Why partnership with parents is a key feature of the Foundation Stage curriculum
How the day is organised to promote children's well-being, learning and development
Why there are settling-in procedures
Why children are given access to materials such as sand, water and paint
